Recycling Station at the Wooster Campus Scarlet, Gray and Green Fair - OARDC 4-20-10
Come visit us at our Recycling Station Tent where we will be offering recycling information and “green” conversation! Several groups will be participating in our Recycling Station and taking items from residences /community members to be recycled. No businesses, please.

• Computer Office Equipment- With new technology changing the use of our computers, we always are replacing our equipment. ITRAN will collect and recycle desktop and portable computers (hard drives will be shredded at the warehouse). Also being collected are computer accessories such as printers, copiers, fax machines, monitors, keyboards, mice, hard drives, floppy drives, CD- ROMs, and circuit boards. Keep these items out of the trash and the parts can be reused. No televisions, kitchen appliances, or stereo equipment.

• Paper- Sanmandy Enterprises will collect and shred on site, up to two file boxes of confidential sensitive documents. Also, they will be taking newspapers, magazines, and phone books. No cardboard or metal. The paper will be recycled into products such as facial tissue, note pads, and cellulose insulation. Let’s keep the paper out of our landfills.

• Cell Phones, Cell Phone Accessories, and Ink Cartridges – The Wilderness Center will be collecting cell phones either to be donated to those in need of a cell phone for safety reasons or have parts recycled. Empty ink cartridges can be refilled for future use.

• CFLs and Fluorescent Light Tubes- CFLs should be replacing the regular incandescent light bulbs in your home. The Wayne County Sustainable Energy Network will collect the CFLs and the florescent tubes that can no longer be used and will take care of disposal.

• Plastic Grocery Bags and Rechargeable Batteries – The Recycling Station will be taking these items for disposal. Plastic grocery bags can be reuse and recycled but the best option is to not use them and to use reusable bags. The bags will be taken to be recycled and reusable bags will be offered in return for a donation to the Wayne County Sustainable Energy Network. Nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium ion, nickel zinc, and small sealed lead, rechargeable batteries will only be taken. They must weigh less than 2 lbs/1kg each. No alkaline, lithium primary or wet cell batteries.

• Denim Blue Jeans- Goodwill Industries will be taking blue jeans for resale, supporting their programs or if they cannot be worn and sold, they will be sent to a textile recycler. Products can be made from the fabrics and yarns.

• Worn Out Sneakers- The College of Wooster Student Athlete Advisory Committee will be collecting sneakers for the Nike Recycling Program. They will be up-cycled into athletic surfaces. All parts of the sneaker will be used: the rubber, the foam, and the fabric.

• Expandable Polystyrene- O’Brien Packaging will be taking Polystyrene (the Styrofoam like material) used for block cushioning in packaging and in medical coolers. This will be up-cycled into picture frames. No other Styrofoam type material will be collected, i.e. eating utensils, packaging peanuts, or craft supplies.

• Prescription Drugs- Medway Drug Enforcement will be taking Prescription Drugs from humans and/or pets. This keeps the drugs off the streets, out of our landfills, and out of our water systems. They may be taken in the container with personal information blacked out. Some over–the-counter products may be taken. No syringes, needles, thermometers, aerosol cans, personal care products, hydrogen peroxide, or any bio-hazardous material will be accepted.

• Useable Non-Toxic Household Paint and Aluminum Drink Cans- Habitat for Humanity will be collecting paint that can be used in their building projects or to be sold in the ReStore. Aluminum cans collected will be kept out of the trash and recycled for funding.
