50th Anniversary Earth Day Celebration
For the 50th anniversary of Earth Day 2020, WCSEN will present a webinar followed by an open discussion via Zoom on how we can address the challenges of climate change in our community. The Webinar is a compilation of three presentations made for Earth Day as part of the Solve Climate by 2030 Teach-In on April 7 and the OSU Environmental Professionals Network on April 15.
The first speaker is OSU Professor Bart Elmore, of the Department of History and a Core Faculty member in the OSU Sustainability Institute. He will speak on the Original Earth Day in 1970 and the Rationale for its Establishment.
The second speaker is Dr. Mark Shanahan. Mark is the Principal of New Morning Energy, LLC, which provides strategic advice on the development and deployment of clean energy technology. He served Governor Ted Stickland as his Energy Advisor and oversaw Ohio’s Renewable Portfolio Standard establishment. He works at both the state and regional levels, as well as on individual project development. He is a member of the Ohio Sustainable Business Council.
The third speaker is Ann Baughman. She is the Associate Director at Freshwater Future, overseeing their climate program. Ann specializes in communicating climate change impacts and building community resilience to those impacts. Prior to working at Freshwater Future, Ann served as a Watershed Protection Director and National Park Service Ranger.
Please watch the webinar at your leisure, and then tune in on April 22 at 7 pm to this link for a discussion of what we do to address Climate Change in Wayne County and the World.
